Class 1- Investigating Materials

As we delve deeper into our ice topic, Class 1 have been thinking about its importance but also about how we protect ourselves from the cold. We did some investigating this afternoon and had to explore which material would be the most suitable for a winter coat. We introduced the word ‘insulation’ and clarified that we wanted a material which would stop heat from escaping. We were very lucky to have some special Thermochromic paper and used this to test our materials. We even recorded our predictions and results. Well done Class 1, a very busy way to end the week!

Community Spirit

This morning we welcomed eight  members of the community into our school to share some of our learning, songs and penny whistle.  Thank you very much to Derek, our next door neighbour, for ensuring all our visitors arrived to and from school safely.

Class 1 performed their AMAZING superhero song, followed by a song telling us the story of Superworm.

Class 2 enjoyed sharing their penny whistle tunes to the audience. They played Twinkle, Twinkle and Auld Lang Syne, as well as Culters Candy and Hot X Buns.

Well done everyone and thanks again to all our visitors.

 

Ice Lolly Success!

Digital Paired Learning- Padlet

This afternoon Class 1 used Padlet to collect and share some facts on their topic ‘Ice Ice Baby’. Thank you so much to Class 2 for their guidance with this task- you showed us how to use the app and helped us answer some key questions.

Fruity Ice Lollies

Class 1 made some fruit lollies today! We placed them in the freezer at break time and checked on them at the end of the day, but sadly they hadn’t fully set. We are looking forward to trying them tomorrow.

I Read…

I Read Because….

Class 1 and 2 were inspired by a poem written by Tom Pow entitled ‘I Read’. Here is a preview of their own version. Unfortunately the full version is too long to share at the moment.

5 Star Gold Award

This week the 5 Star Gold Award was presented to Katie and Daisy.

Daisy was given her award for her independent written work about her Ice Prison.

Katie was given her award for using her literacy skills ( VCOP) to write an amazing monster description.

Well done girls- Super Work!

Pyjama Day- Rebels

What a cosy Friday we’ve had! To mark the end of Scottish Book Week, Mrs Pirie started us off with an assembly all about ‘Rebels in stories’. She then shared an extract from a book about her favourite rebellious character: Pippi Longstocking.

Class 1 and 2 have had lots of opportunities to share stories today, including ones from home. We also gave out some Bookbug bags to P1 and Read,Write,Count bags to P2 and P3. The children had the chance to share some of their new books at school, but are looking forward to exploring their packs further at home.
